John Waldhausen, M.D., is chief of Pediatric General and Thoracic Surgery and director of the Pediatric Surgery Training Program at Seattle Children's Hospital.

Dr. Waldhausen's interest in medicine and surgery originated with his father who was a Pediatric heart surgeon. Dr. Waldhausen's goal is to help parents understand the surgical health issues that may confront their children and to guide them through the various treatment choices that can be made. 

Dr. Waldhausen earned his M.D. from Penn State. He is board certified in both General and Pediatric Surgery. 

Dr. Waldhausen is on the Pediatric Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery and president of the Association of Pediatric Surgery Training Program Directors. He has clinical and research interests in neonatal surgery, oncologic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, thoracic surgery, standardization of clinical care and patient safety.

Personal Interests

In his free time, Dr. Waldhausen enjoys hiking, mountain climbing and sailing.
